The Bible says: "Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it" (Proverbs 4:23).
The young Christian woman who is tempted to date a non-Christian but refuses to do so because of Scripture.(1) She’s guarding her heart.
The man who refuses to read the bestselling novel because it glamorizes sexual immorality.(2) He's guarding his heart.
The Christian businessman who refuses to cheat even though he could get away with it. He’s guarding his heart.(3)
Every day in every decision, big or small, we decide whether to follow our hearts or guard our hearts.
When we guard our hearts, we actually follow God's heart "for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21).
And when we follow God's heart, He gives us strength:
"The eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him." 2 Chronicles 16:9
