In our fallen world, most of us experience suffering in some form.
God promised us a rose garden, but we trashed it with sin. Now this old world is the best we get until our full redemption is realized.
We are broken people living in a broken world experiencing pain, suffering, and challenges.
But what about those who suffer more than others?
How can we be Jesus to those people in our midst?
Sometimes people avoid those who are suffering because they don't know what to say.
But the most important thing we can say is "I'll pray for you" and then do it.
Unless you've been in the same position, never say "I understand what you're going through." Because you don't.
Don't recite Romans 8:28.
Don't think about ways the sufferer might have caused their problems. (See "Job's Friends" and "No Karma")
Let them know you care. Help them with physical needs. Cry with them. Listen to them (Romans 12:15).
But best of all, pray (1 Timothy 2:1).
