Character and Talent

God's description of Bazalel in Exodus 31 gives us insight into the way God chooses people to do his work. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

Sometimes we think valuable Christian work belongs to the talented people in life, those with the greatest skills.

But God talks about motive and character more than talent.

Christ gives us a Biblical motive for everything we do, and the focus is not our gifts:

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. (Colossians 3:23)

In Exodus 31:1-5, God appoints Bezalel to do fine crafts in the temple but God explains his character before explaining his skill: "I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills."

Whenever we judge a man's skill above his character, we make a serious mistake.

God can use a man with lots of character and little talent more than a man with lots of talent and little character.

When we seek God first and live righteously, He will use our gifts for His purposes (Matthew 6:33).

  1. Really Matthew 6:33 -- The order is important. first ; and..

Also Matthew 12:33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

It is: First tree, then fruit.
