Comfortable on the Couch

Do you know what it means to be a "Couch Christian"? It's similar to a Couch Potato. This 1-minute devotion explains.

Most of us have never lost a job, been beaten, or been arrested because of our faith.

We live such easy lives that we've come to believe we deserve our comfort and wealth. We complain when we have to give up one of our luxuries.

You've probably heard the term "couch potatoes" describing lazy people who spend most of their time on the couch watching TV.

But what about "Couch Christians" who are resting on the couch when they should be fulfilling God's purposes (Ephesians 2:10)?

Studies show that the majority of American Christians don't read their Bibles even once a week (source). And only 15% tithe regularly (source).

Let's read the passage below and ask God if we've been sitting down in any area where we need to get moving:

"Then [Jesus] said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels." Luke 9:23-26

    1. Dear Linda,
It's good to feel badly about your sins. You are agreeing with God when you do this.

If you have repented and turned from your sins and asked forgiveness of those you offended, you need to agree with what God says here:

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
