As a child in Sunday school, my mother sat in a little wooden chair and memorized the 23rd Psalm.
Fifty years later, when my mother's church ordered new chairs, she bought one of the old ones for me.
When I see that little chair in my living room, I imagine my momma as a small child sitting there, wide-eyed and filled with childlike faith saying, "The Lord is my Shepherd."
The twenty-third Psalm transmits God's:
♥ gentleness
♥ patient care
♥ guidance
♥ constant presence
Many well-known paintings depict Christ as our Shepherd holding a small lamb comfortably on His shoulders.
I’ve been on those shoulders.
On those shoulders:
♥ “I have everything I need.”
♥ He gives me rest and peace.
♥ “He renews my strength.”
♥ “He guides me in paths that bring honor to His Name.”
When I see that little chair in my living room, I remember my momma who “shepherded me” when I was a child. I miss her, but I rejoice that she no longer merely speaks about her Shepherd—she now sees Him face-to-face.

There's something special about the Psalms. They are so helpful, encouraging, thought-provoking, and comforting. I love writing devotions using the Psalms. In fact, I've written a book featuring one-minute devotions from Psalms and Proverbs. It's a hard-cover book with the same kind of devotions you find on Bible Love Notes. But it offers an additional feature - a "For Further Thought" section for those times when you want to dig deeper. Order it now and receive two free Bible studies as a bonus! Find out more about it here: Wisdom for Life. And if you want to read the first four devotions in the book, click "look inside" on Lifeway or Amazon.
Very sweet, Gail. The love and guidance of a mother is a blessing. What a sweet memory you have of yours.
