When Life Knocks You Down, Do What Asaph Did

When we feel like life has knocked us down, we can gain wisdom from the way Asaph handled his discouragement in Psalm 73.

Most of us face situations in life that knock us off our feet. And it seems logical to ask "Why didn't you stop this, Lord?"

In Psalm 73, Asaph, a faithful servant of God, had similar questions. He looked at all the wicked, arrogant people around him who were living healthy, carefree lives. And he wondered if he'd followed God in vain because his own life was not so carefree.

But Asaph's distress led him to see that the problem was his perspective.

He began with confusion and questions (see vv. 2-16), but in verse 17 he made a turn-around, and he ended with reminders of God’s faithfulness (see vv. 18-28). And this is a good way to process our confusion.

Perfect justice will prevail. God promises it (Revelation 22:12Galatians 6:7-10). But that doesn't mean we'll see it during our lifetime.

So whenever we encounter one of life's unanswerable questions, we should respond like Asaph and adjust our perspective by remembering that no matter what happens here and now, God's wisdom, justice, and faithfulness will prevail.
