It's hard to believe that prosperity preachers have ever read the Bible. This 1-minute devotion explains why.

I wonder if those who preach the modern prosperity gospel have read the Bible. If they had, they'd know these things:

✔ Jesus said: “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:15

Jesus also spoke about the foolishness of storing up earthly treasures instead of being rich toward God (Luke 12:16-21).

Hebrews 13:5 explains that those who know the Lord will keep their lives free from the love of money, being content with what they have.

1 Timothy 6:10-11 teaches that "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil," and it causes some people to give up their faith. That's why we must flee from worldly values and "pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness." 

I sometimes find myself thinking I "deserve" certain things in life. When that happens, I try to remind myself of Paul's secret, a secret prosperity preachers never learn:

"I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Paul, Philippians 4:12-13

  4. Yes, good one - He turned Shepherd boy into a King (David). Made a Queen out of an orphan (raised by an Uncle), turned into a concubine Ester. The King of Kings born in the most humbling circumstances. Jesus himself didn't have a home to lay his head that he owned on earth, yet we expect God to make our mansions here on earth. God does provide for our needs when we follow His will even in the poorest of situations. We aren't always getting what we want here on earth. Sometimes pieces of heaven does fall on the earth within the vessels God has chosen to do His will. As long as we comply to His will - we will have hardships but we will be blessed. Not always in the material aspects of life.

  6. I love and am inspired every day as I read the ine minute Devotion. Truly it is like God is talking to me because when I am going through hard times, the bible devotion appears. Thank you. Is there a way a person can get a hard copy of these devotions

    1. Hi Diane, I'm so glad the devotions are helpful. You can copy and paste the devotions into a word document for your personal use, if that helps, but they are not published in book form....at least not yet.

  8. John 14:13 is from JESUS, who is HIGHER than Paul,and it does NOT exclude money.

    1. The words Paul wrote are God's Words, not Paul's words. Paul simply recorded the words the Holy Spirit told Him to write.

      If you believe the Bible authors wrote their words, not God's, then you cannot believe John 14:13 because John wrote those words. And John is not higher than Paul.

      In addition, John 14:13 says we must ask in Christ's name and that doesn't mean there's magic in saying "in the name of Jesus." It means we pray according to His will, something clearly explained in other passages such as 1 John 5:14-15.

      However, even if you only believe the words of Christ, you should read what he says in John 15 where He says "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." In that passage He explains that remaining in Him and His Word means understanding His purposes and seeking to produce fruit for the Kingdom.

      However, since you believe the writings of John and not the writing of Paul, you won't enjoy reading any of the devotions on my site because the whole team working with Bible Love Notes accepts the entire Bible as God's Word.
