The Unshakable Bottom Line

Do you know the unshakable bottom line that God gave Job in his trials? This 1-minute devotion explains.

A friend and I were talking about a time in our lives when circumstances blindsided us, a time that challenged our faith.

At first it seemed to us that we'd overestimated God's love.

But in the end, as things unfolded, our faith grew stronger and we realized we'd actually underestimated God's love.

When we underestimate anything about God, we need to read the book of Job.

God allowed Job's world to crash down around him, and Job responded with great faith, proclaiming, “The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised" (Job 1:21).

However, when things got worse, Job also began to underestimate God's love and wisdom (Job 10:18). So God gave Job the only answer any of us need―the unshakable bottom line

We are not God. We are not all-wise, all-knowing, and perfectly loving. But God is.

Are you struggling with a trial that doesn't seem good or fair? I encourage you to read the final chapters of Job and remember that unshakable bottom line (Job 38-42:6). Anything God allows in our lives is something He is going to use for our good (Romans 8:28; 1 Peter 1:3-9). He is God, and we aren't!

  1. Good reminder, Gail. Seems there are a few of us mulling this over at the same time.

  5. Gail...That verse from Job had new meaning to me when our son went home to the Lord. God's sovereignty is not always to be understood but it can be trusted. Thank you for the reminder today and for the link up friend. Blessings.

  7. I have enjoyed everything I've read until now you have wrote.
You beginning statement is so untrue. God does not confuse us. Satan confused you and did something but God did not. Satan has come to kill still and destroy
God is the giver and auther of life.
God also did not do the things listed in Job to Job. Reread the first chapter of Job and think about who God is talking to and who possesed the Sabeans to kill his serveants and take his cattle. Think for a little while on what was going on. Job thought it was God how ever it was not God who took from Job.

    1. I understand your point, and while I think most people who've read this devotion understand I am talking about things God "allowed" I will edit that sentence for clarity in case others like you misunderstand the meaning.

      Thanks.

  8. during my "rekindling" stages, I argued with God regarding injustices occurred and presently happening. I consulted q dear brother Pastor and enlightened my cloudy path, he told me that God is a "Permissive" God and all due for His greater glory and for us to be refined. It 8s a fact written in the Bible that God's and ways are not our thoughts and ways... the path to His kingdom is a step of refinements guided by His grace and mercies, His Love never ends and faithfulness is great.

    1. It sounds like your pastor gave you good counsel.

I would prefer another word to "Permissive" as it could be taken by some to mean God overlooks our sins and/or doesn't expect us to turn from sin. But it's very fitting from the perspective that God "permits" things He doesn't approve because He allows man free will and because He can use all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

And Yes, because we are mere human beings we cannot fully understand His thoughts and His ways, as you pointed out.
      God bless you.
