Train Ride Conversation

Sometimes when we are hoping for a little peace and quiet, God has other plans. In this situation, He blessed us with His plans.

It was 2008 and we were on a nine-and-a-half-hour train trip to Krakow, Poland. We were hoping for an empty compartment to relax, read, and study. But the Lord had other things in mind.

Most compartments were less than half full, but not ours. Not only was ours full, it was overflowing!

The four Romanian young people sharing our compartment were part of a large group of students. So throughout the trip, there was a steady flow of young people at our compartment door. And they were eager to practice English with native English-speakers.

Over the next nine-and-a-half hours, we had conversations on a variety of subjects, and we had several opportunities to share significant elements of the gospel.

We often don't know what's best for us. We wanted an uncrowded compartment, a quiet day of scenery and Bible study.  But God had a better idea.

God may have a better idea for you today too. Are you available?

"Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is." Ephesians 5:15-17

"Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:33

Sometimes when we are hoping for a little peace and quiet, God has other plans. In this situation, He blessed us with His plans.

  1. Hi Gail,

I found my way over from Hazel's blog :)

So, I have to ask - do you think it was possible that God was letting y'all *be* the Bible study for these folks? Just thinking out loud... :)

  3. Gail What an opportune time for you and your husband to spread the word of God to the young romanian youth! God is always right, and knows when it needs to be done in His timing.

  4. Gail, thank you for sharing this story, and thank you for letting God write it in your life! Your last lines include a question I need to ask myself every day: "God may have a better idea for you today too. Are your heart and your schedule available?"
