The Choice is Yours

Our culture Thinks that Choice is the Highest Good. God Has a Different Perspective. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions #Choice

I had more than 120 choices for my lunch beverage.

I was in a fast food restaurant, standing in front of a new beverage machine that starts with 22 soft drink choices and allows you to add extra flavors like cherry, raspberry, lime, vanilla, etc.

We Americans love choices, and we’re convinced that most choices are neither right nor wrong, just different.
  • God says loving ourselves is harmful; our culture encourages selfishness (2 Timothy 3:1-5; Philippians 2:3-4).
  • Jesus says He’s the only way of salvation; our culture tells us that beliefs don't matter, just sincerity (John 14:6).
  • God says there is only one healthy, God-pleasing sexual relationship: that between a married man and woman; our culture rejects any boundaries in sexual intimacy (Romans 1:26-27; Matthew 15:19).
Life is full of choices, some as inconsequential as what to drink for lunch. Others are life-changing. We can choose to believe God or man, to trust our instincts and the norms of our culture or to trust God’s Word.

  2. We just discussed choices with our teenage son recently. Our choices can make or break us. Some are simple yet, some are so profound. They can mold us an make us into what He wants us to be, or they can lead us down a road of destruction. We constantly say, "do the right thing". Sometimes knowing the right thing can be hard. But, most of the time because we know wrong from right the choice is a no-brainer. And that too can sometimes be difficult to. Because the right thing may not be the popular thing. We are to be set apart and that's what makes the difference. We answer to the Lord, not to the world's standards. Thanks for sharing!!

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well, Piper. Good confirmation that we need to stand firm because God's commands are always loving and good.

  3. It takes lots of character to make your own choice when everyone else seems to have already decided for you. Thank you for visiting my tea party :)

  5. What a wonderful (and timely!) post. It saddens me, that in this nation, founded upon Christian principles, Christians are suffering unprecedented persecution for simply reading and believing in the Bible and the Truth it gives us. Thank you for having the courage for writing and sharing this! Also, thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind comments. Many blessings, Lisa

  6. In my 70 years, I have seen the commandments taken out of school, the approval of abortion, the approval of gay and lesbian rights, and the dissolution of marriage as an everyday occasion. I have seen our children become disrespectful of any law or morality or parental discipline. 70 years. Lord help us to come back to the foot of the cross. Lift up our eyes and turn back to God.

  7. Yes this is a timely reminder for all of us. It makes me remember Eve that made a choice on 'what seemed good for eating' and through the whole world into suffering and pain since then.
Before we make choices we must always pray and ask God for direction. We can also ask ourselves how will this choice affect us in the long term, would it be for good or bad. Wait on the Lord in prayer for the answer.
Remember the choices we make today will affect us either for
    good or bad tomorrow!!

  8. Since I started reading the Bible I have been able to see the deceptions that are being played on the average citizen every day. I have been devastated by the unholy conduct of my Catholic Church. God may not let it survive. Thank you for your 1 minute devotions.
