Don't Be a Bottle-Feeder or a Works-aholic

Christians need to avoid being bottle-feeders or a "Works-aholic." This devotion encourages us to base our priorities on Ephesians 2:10.

Our daily schedules offer clues about our dedication to our faith. And we need to be careful to avoid these two lifestyles:

1. Bottle-feeders

These folks never move from the milk of the gospel to the meat because they’re too busy (1 Corinthians 3:1-4). They may be occupied with good things for their family or selfish things for themselves, but they never have much time for God.

2. Works-aholics

Then there are those who try to do it all, taking on overwhelming responsibilities with work, home, family, and ministry. Sometimes they try to fill the void left in church ministries by the busy bottle-feeders. Or they may think that the more they do, the more they please God.

They might read Galatians 6:9; 2 Thessalonians 3:13; 1 Corinthians 15:58 and think God never wants them to say “no.” But these passages are about perseverance and priority, not about busyness.

Bottle-feeders need to grow up and realize that faith involves works (James 2:14-26).

Works-aholics need to remember that God has specific tasks for each of us (Ephesians 2:10). If we want to do those things well, we can’t take on tasks He’s not given us.

Bottle-feeders and works-aholics have this in common: they both need to learn when to say no and when to say yes.
