When Sin Meets Its Match

We Christians need to remember these wonderful promises about overcoming sin.

Sin can seem overpowering, but we Christians know that's not true.

Romans 12:2 tells us to "renew our minds" in God's truth, so let's refresh our memories with these wonderful biblical truths about the limitations of sin.

1. Can Satan make us sin? No!
James 4:7: "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

2. Can temptation overpower us? No!
1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

3. Can we be too weak? Yes and no.
We may not have the strength on our own, but Philippians 4:13 gives us this assurance: "I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."

Christians sin, but we sin less and less as we let God's Spirit fill our hearts, minds, and actions.

"We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin." Romans 6:6

I encourage you to thoughtfully read Romans 8 this week. It's a wonderful chapter of the Bible, encouraging us to live by God's Spirit.

  1. If you don't understand Jesus died for ALL our sins, past present and future, your still living in works and should evaluate your faith to see if you are in it.. Eph 2:8&9, Romans 8:1 to the end... fully justified, sanctified and glorified...

    1. I must tell you that it is quite tiresome when Christians leave condescending comments that have nothing to do with the content of the devotion.

Nothing in the devotion even hints that Jesus did not die for all of our sins. Please read something before leaving a comment that rudely suggests the author is living by works instead of faith.
