We Need It: Truth

Biblical Truth is essential to our faith, but it is under continual attack. This devotion offers over 20 Scriptures.

Full text of Scriptures below the devotion.

1. God’s truth is always under attack, now more than ever.

Satan, the father of lies, denies, discredits, and distorts God's truth (John 8:44-45).

False teachers distort it (Acts 20:29-31).

Unbelievers suppress and deny it (Romans 1:18-19; 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12; Romans 1:25).

Some people claim to be Christians, but they're actually fakers without truth in their hearts (1 John 2:4; 1 John 1:8).

2. Truth is essential to our faith.

Salvation is believing and receiving God’s truth (Ephesians 1:3; 1 Timothy 2:3-4)

✔ The Body of Christ is “the pillar and foundation of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15).

✔ Truth guides us into godliness (Psalm 25:5; Titus 1:1).

We must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:22-24).

Truth sets us free to walk closely with the Lord (John 8:31-32).

3. Genuine believers highly value God's truth.

We “buy” truth: pursue it, make it a priority, support it (Proverbs 23:23; 2 Corinthians 13:8).

We don't distort the truth but set it forth plainly (2 Corinthians 4:2).

We speak the truth in love 💙 (Ephesians 4:15).

We live in the light of God’s truth and obey it (Ephesians 5:8-9; 1 Peter 1:22).

We do our best to handle it correctly (2 Timothy 2:15).

Therefore, dear Christian, stand firm “with the belt of truth buckled around your waist” (Ephesians 6:14).

Christians are facing strong opposition, and we need to understand the importance of holding tightly to God's truth as presented in Scripture.

John 8:44-45: "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!"

Acts 20:29-31: "I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears."

Romans 1:18-19: "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them."

2 Thessalonians 2:10-12: "They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness."

Romans 1:25: "They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen."

1 John 2:4: "Whoever says, 'I know him,' but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person."

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."

John 8:31-32: "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'"
