Thanksgiving was a holiday born from hardship. The Pilgrims had experienced religious persecution, death of close family members, lack of food, and many other hardships. Yet they recognized they served a generous God!
And they set aside a day to honor and thank Him.
They thanked God not only for what He gave them but also for what He withheld.
They knew that He saw the big picture of their lives and He knew what was best, even if it didn’t appear best from their finite perspective.
They trusted God’s goodness and love.
Jeremiah 29:11 is an oft-quoted verse about God bringing us good, not harm:
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
It's a wonderful verse and 100% true, but do you know when this popular verse was written? It was written during a time when God’s people were in exile and it would be years before they saw their homeland again.
God always knows what’s best. That’s why we can recite this verse today and everyday:
"Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Yes. I want to send this to a relative that is having a difficult time in his young life. It resonates with his situation and will give him a truly better perspective.
