#3: Blessed are the Meek

Biblical meekness may not be what you think. It's neither weak nor shy. This 1-minute devotion explains. #Beatitudes #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions

"Blessed are the meek
for they will inherit the earth."

The Greek word translated meek does not simply mean gentleness. Biblical meekness is gentleness, humility, and strength combined: it is present in godly leaders as well as faithful followers.

A meek person is not overly sensitive, demanding, rude, self-centered, or arrogant (Philippians 2:3).

She listens carefully, speaks thoughtfully, and isn’t easily angered (James 1:19).

She doesn’t avoid sharing the salt of the gospel, but she does so graciously (Colossians 4:6).

And how do the meek inherit the earth? Does this mean they’ll be rich and comfortable in this life?

Meekness can result in earthly success, but that’s not the blessing of this beatitude. The meek will still have earthly problems, but they’ll find contentment in the midst of them, never feeling angry toward God nor demanding the easy road.

The meek know that their true inheritance is in the heavenly “promised land,” and they long to be home with their Lord (Hebrews 11:16).

Blessed are the meek!
