Fake News and Good News

This 1-minute devotion offers an interesting example of how fake news influences people and offers the biblical answer. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions #FakeNews

A recently published book cites a national study from the Bureau of Labor Statistics claiming that most married women will say they are happy, but when their husbands leave the room, they admit they’re miserable.

The author concludes that unmarried, childless women are the happiest.

After this book was featured on numerous legitimate websites, the truth came out. The author misunderstood the research category called “spouse absent.” It was married women who were not living with their spouses, not married women whose husbands had left the room (source)!

The whole premise of this book was a lie, the result of poor research.

Proverbs 29:20: "Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them."

This is a good illustration of how our culture creates values that contradict God’s Word. They base their lives on popular misunderstandings without consulting the perfect source of truth.(1)

It's almost impossible to avoid fake news. But we can avoid fake values if we check everything we hear with Scripture (Acts 17:112 Timothy 3:16-17).

Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Psalm 18:30: "As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD's word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him."
Psalm 119:9: "How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word."
2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work."
Hebrews 4:12: "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
