We Need More than Earplugs

We can deal with symptoms or with the underlying problems. This 1-minute devotion uses an interesting analogy to make this point. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

When we entered the building to hear the singing group, they were handing out earplugs for those who wanted to prevent ear damage! They were dealing with the symptoms instead of dealing with the problem by turning down the volume.

Unfortunately, I think we often take this approach with our faith.

There's nothing wrong with counseling or self-help programs, but many of our problems could be avoided altogether if we took our Christian growth more seriously.

Deliberate Bible study, fellowship, and prayer do more than simply manage symptoms in our lives. They help us deal with our underlying sin problems.

The apostle Paul said: "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me" (Philippians 3:12-14).

If Paul could admit that he hadn't arrived but needed to keep pressing on, then surely we need to do the same.

So let's turn down the volume on worldly distractions and anything else that damages our spiritual hearing (Mark 4:9).

And let's challenge ourselves to find new ways to grow in our faith.
