After a long day of international travel, I climbed into bed completely exhausted.
Several hours later, I awoke disoriented, unable to see our illuminated clock.
Something was wrong.
I flipped the nearby light switch.
Nothing happened.
There are no streetlights near our house, so it was exceptionally dark as I stumbled into our living area.
And then I saw a sparkle of light and heard the familiar voice of my husband who was already up, flashlight in hand, checking things out.
This is a good illustration of Romans 8:28.
Something went wrong. I had no control. It affected me negatively.
But my husband was already "on duty," taking care of things while I slept.
Our wise, omniscient God is always behind the scenes in our lives, working things for our good.
When life seems dark, we can rest in the sparkle of His promise to work all things "for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

ReplyDeleteThis is a good illustration! Completely off the point (well, almost) is that we have a nightlight plugged in in our bathroom that senses when the lights are off, and then it comes on by itself. It can be unplugged and carried around, and still gives light. You can have it dim, or bright. Just a thought for your next power outage--because we know they'll come.
