When Things Don't Go as Planned
We bought tickets for a direct train from Budapest to Zagreb. An easy trip…so we thought.
But due to track repairs, we ended up riding three different trains and a bus, hauling our heavy luggage from one to the other.(1)
We reached our destination, but not as expected.
This is a good illustration of our lives in Christ.
God has good purposes for our lives (Ephesians 2:10), but the ride is rarely easy and direct.
We may experience the death of a loved one, an illness, a lost job, a wayward child, a financial catastrophe, or other difficulties that “interrupt” our perfect ride.
No one is completely exempt from difficulties, delays, and detours in life.
But we can hold fast to these truths:
1. Our final destination is with Jesus so we always have reason to rejoice (Philippians 4:8).
3. The Lord is able to use every train change for good in our lives (Romans 8:28).
4. Sometimes delays and detours are where God develops our faith the most (Ephesians 3:20; James 1:2-3).

(1) When we ride "life's train" with Jesus, He carries all of our luggage (Psalm 68:19; 1 Peter 5:7).
