Prayer Language

God Expects All of Us to Speak This Language. Know what it is?

What do you call someone who speaks three languages? Trilingual.

Two languages? Bilingual.

One language? American.

Several years ago, I met a Croatian waiter who knew German, Croatian, and Russian fluently plus a little English and Hungarian. That’s not unusual for Europeans.

We Americans are the exception; and with English fast becoming the second language of Europe, it’s likely we’ll remain that way.

My hope is that we monolingual American Christians will move beyond mono-national interests and begin praying for our world.

It’s not everyone’s responsibility to become a foreign missionary, but it’s everyone’s responsibility to pray that the world will know Christ’s love.

Jesus said, "Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest" (John 4:35).

Let's make prayer for the nations our "second language."

Bible Love Notes has over 20,000 subscribers. If everyone spent 3 minutes in prayer today for another country, that would add up to more than 1000 hours of prayer! Imagine that!!

Will you give up 3 minutes of each day to pray for the spread of the Gospel? Once you get started, you'll probably feel like praying longer, but 3 minutes a day is something everyone can handle!

    1. Hi Unknown,
I changed it to "ripe" because perhaps it is more easily understood, but "white" is the actual meaning of the Greek word leukos used in that verse. This means that the fields were ready to be harvested.

And you might see that many translations use the word "white."

      English Standard Version
Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.

      Berean Literal Bible
Do you not say that it is yet four months and the harvest comes? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and see the fields, because they are already white toward harvest!

      New American Standard Bible
"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest '? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.

      New King James Version
Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!

      King James Bible
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
