If Someone Asks Why Christians Are Hypocrites, Share These Five Truths

A concise Biblical answer to the question: Why be a Christian when so many of them are hypocrites?

Let's
be prepared to answer this question about our faith:

Why be a Christian when so many are hypocrites?

It's true—there are hypocrites in churches—people who don't live the way the Bible prescribes. They talk about purity while living immorally and speak of love while behaving hatefully.

But these five truths must be considered:

1. Hypocrisy is a human problem, not a "Christian problem." There are more hypocrites outside the church than inside it (2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:1-3; Galatians 5:19-26).

2. Not all who call themselves "Christians" are true believers. Fake Christians have always given true believers a bad name (Matthew 7:21-23Matthew 13:24-30).

3. The church is a good place for hypocrites. Christ offers powerful help in overcoming this and every other sin (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

4. Most people in churches are not hypocrites (1 Peter 2:9-10). Judging all Christians by the worst examples is the same as racial bigotry.

5. If someone genuinely wants to know the Lord, they won't let anything stop them. If they give up on God because of bad examples, they didn't really want to know Him in the first place.

  3. I might add that those who call us hypocrites are oftentimes seeing us through the clouded lens of their own flawed belief system...

  4. I love how you break this answer down so simply and plainly. Because this objection to Christianity is just lazy really. It's obvious that you cannot reject an entire believe system on the failure of some. Thanks for this post!
