How Eve Changed the Life of Every Woman After Her

If you've never pondered this truth about Eve, you will be glad you took the time to read this 1-minute devotion.

Genesis 1-3 makes me sad when I think of all the insecurities, selfishness, confusion, pain, and sorrows that Eve passed on to me and every other woman.(1)

She had the perfect life, walking and talking with God each day, living in the garden paradise God created for her.

I can't imagine what it was like for her to feel completely secure with her body, personality, relationships, and purpose, to enjoy perfect health and a problem-free life.

Eve had every reason to believe in God's spotless love, but she chose to believe the liar of all liars (Genesis 3:4-5).

She damaged God's perfect world and left us all broken. But our Lord allowed invited us to have a relationship of wholeness in Him (Romans 5:8).(2)

I'm saddened by Eve's sin, but that sadness is nothing compared to the joy and awe I have for our God who invites us to become His beloved children (1 John 3:1).

Footnotes:

(1) I cannot blame Eve, however, because I know that My Teeth Marks Are On That Apple.(2) "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

(2) As soon as mankind sinned and destroyed our perfect relationship with God, He began giving us clues about the coming Savior, Jesus, who would one day crush Satan and restore the relationship between God and man (Genesis 3:15; Romans 16:20; Colossians 2:15).

  1. Paradoxically, it is our sin, and Eve's original sin, that allows us to see the full extent of God's love! Maybe that was part of His plan all along...

  2. I don't think Eve's sin was part of His plan, but no doubt He knew the choice Eve would make. So given the gift of free will, as with many things, God used what the enemy meant for evil and used for good for many.

  5. Adam was standing beside Eve when she succumbed to Satan’s temptation. If I were standing beside my wife and a scam artist was trying to get her to do something against God, I should step between them and send him on his way. Together, Adam AND Eve created our fallen world. Finally, I have no doubt that I and everyone born on this planet, with the exception of Jesus, would have also succumbed to Satan.

    1. Lee,

I've written other devotions explaining that God held Adam more accountable for the fall of man because He was the woman's leader and said nothing to stop her.

However, Eve was still 100% responsible for her decision and just as responsible as Adam for the fall of mankind. Adam's sin doesn't justify or minimize Eve's sin, nor does Eve's sin justify or minimize Adam's.

We often talk of "Adam's sin" without mentioning Eve. I don't think this devotion misrepresents Eve's culpability.

  6. God loves all of us, regardless of our sinful nature. We all fall prey to sin until heaven takes us Home!

    1. Hi Unknown,
Yes, we all sin. But Christians regret their sins, repent of them, and seek to turn from them. That's one way we know if we are a Christian:

1 John 3:6: No one who abides in [Jesus] keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.

And, of course, only those who trust Jesus as their Lord and Savior will be in heaven:

John 3:36: Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him."
