Biblical Key to Overcoming Worry and Stress

How do we handle long-term problems in life? Matthew 6:34 gives us wise advice to alleviate unnecessary stress and worry.

Temporary problems don't usually worry us.

The things that scare us are difficulties with an unknown "time limit." For example:

How long will this Covid pandemic continue?

What if my child never turns from his destructive lifestyle?

What if my marriage never improves?

What if my health continues to deteriorate?

What if I never find a good job?

God knows we have a tendency to project our worries into the future and He comforts us with this command:

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matthew 6:34).

We can handle each day's problems because God is present and He's helping us—giving us His strength, comfort and peace. Then, at the end of the day, we can rest in His arms knowing He'll be there again tomorrow.

Faith is a day by day walk, and the most important note we can write on tomorrow's date on our calendar is this: "Jesus will be there."

Let these passages sooth your weary, worried soul:

Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Isaiah 40:29: "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."

Romans 8:39: "neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

    2. Thanks for stopping by my blog. The Colorado fires are devastating, at the moment. Your bible verse is very timely today for us Coloradoans. We lived in Ft. Collins two different times in the 1950s and 1960s, while my husband was getting his bachelors, then masters. Still visit occassionlly as our son lives in No. Colorado. Always, a wonderful area.

    3. I always like how you hit right on the spot where I need some encouragement. Not to worry is something I think I have down until I start worrying again. Thanks, Gail.

    4. Thank you so much for this! I spend WAY too much unnecessary time questioning what tomorrow will bring. I loved this: 'Faith is a day by day walk, and the only notation we need on tomorrow's calendar is "Jesus will be there."' I may just print that out and put it on my bathroom mirror!

      Thanks again! : )

      1. I would love to have the time to do that, Yvonne, as I know how important it is to recite God's Word. One thing you can do is copy and past the text onto a word document and print it.

    7. Thank you for these words, of encouragement. It is a reminder to me that God is still on control when worry creeps upon me.
