Touching, Holding, Sinning

Research shows some interesting things about "touching" things, and 2 Corinthians 6:17 contains an important warning about touching. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

“One study found that the longer you hold something [in a store], the greater your desire to own it—and the more willing [you are] to pay for it. Even worse--those possessive feelings kick in after a mere 30 seconds of holding the item.”(1)

It's important to evaluate our shopping patterns, especially if we tend to overspend.

But the principle of touching/holding something applies to more than just our shopping sins. That’s why 2 Corinthians 6:17 says:

"Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you."

This truth is illustrated in Psalm 1:1 where we see a progression of sin from walking with the wicked, standing, and finally sitting with them.

God knows that “touching” sins with our hearts or hands, draws us away from biblical values and encourages us to compromise. It may be spending money we don’t have, eating that extra brownie, entertaining ourselves with immoral books or TV, or wasting time when we should be fulfilling a responsibility.

Let’s learn to pray before we “touch.”

  2. I don't know, I tend to carry stuff around the store with me and then at the very end decide it is just to expensive and go put it back. I still love to correlation between shopping habits and the Bible though :)

  3. I'm with Rachel. The longer I hold it, the more I think about how I don't really need it. I like that Bible verse! I think we have to also be careful that the uncleanliness is not of "us," as Christians. We have to continuously ask for prayer and guidance as we walk our paths. Great parallelism. Glad to have found you, my sister-in-Christ!
