I recently decluttered my kitchen counter tops, getting rid of unnecessary items.
For a good week afterward, I sighed and smiled every time I entered my kitchen.
It’s such a good feeling to have a clean, efficient work space.
Sometimes I also need to declutter my soul, getting rid of fears, bitterness, anger and self-focus (self-pity, self-interest, selfishness).
These things build up over time if I don’t deal with them daily. And they clutter my spiritual “work space.”
Are there things cluttering your soul today? Is it time to clean them out and enjoy the sighs and smiles again?
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” 1 John 1:9; Acts 3:19(1)

(1) Although this verse in Acts 3 is part of Peter’s message to unsaved Jews, it's still applicable to us as Christians: repentance brings refreshment to our souls.
Bible Love Notes
Looks very open and clean. Great reminder to do the same for our hearts-declutter what isn't needed!
ReplyDeleteGail, I really enjoyed reading this post. I am a neat freak so I know all about that great feeling of seeing everything clean and uncluttered, truth be told sometimes I think I take it a bit too far and my hubby would agree :) Your post brought a fresh new perspective. If I take the time to keep my home spic-and-span, then I need to do the same for my soul because your right, it does get quite messy in there!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and much love :)
Great thoughts, Gail. It's a good time of year to declutter and make room for the Christ child.
ReplyDeleteI love to be clutter free spiritually, emotionally, and physically. It doesn't usually last very long, though! I must diligently keep up with all three! Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteI really needed to hear/read this as I have been dealing with anger, frustration, resentment, and fear over recently losing my job. I feel I've been treated unfairly and badly and the resentment and hostility toward my employers has been eating away at me and causing depression. It has also casued me to feel separated from God. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour beautiful post reminded me of a statement made by a friend when someone we both loved passed away. She said, "we spend our entire lives accumulating things, and then in one second we need none of it." To that I might add that the "one second" is unknown to us - all the more reason to value a good relationship with God more than the things of this world.
ReplyDeleteDe-cluttering is something I love to do, actually did my kitchen too recently. Good thoughts on de-cluttering our soul. Need to do that daily. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI have to declutter now and again, as well. Good for the soul...and the mind. Thank you for the reminder and for linking.
ReplyDeleteI have a kitchen counter that gets that way often! And it does feel so wonderful for days afterwards when it gets cleaned! OK -- I'm motivated!
ReplyDeleteJust found you on pintrest - thank you for reminding me about what I already know to be true! My memory is good, my forgeter is better!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jesus! What a needed reminder! That is so much more important than decluttering my home!!!! thanks so much!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so grateful for reading this love note regarding clutter, as I have been putting off doing mine. Always promising myself that I would do this tomorrow and never doing it. Seeing this today was a definite message from God to de-clutter! I know this will free my mind and spirit! Thank you Jesus
