4 Steps in Becoming a "Spiritual Olympian"

1 Cor. 9:24-27 talks about our spiritual life as a race. This 1-minute devotion explains 4 steps for effective spiritual training.

Scripture refers to our spiritual life as a race (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). So let's
train like Olympians
  1. Daily “workouts” in God's Word: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
  2. With clear goals: “Press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called [us] heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).
  3. Prepared for competition: “Revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15).
  4. Protecting ourselves from harmful influences: “Above all else, guard your heart” (Proverbs 4:23).
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).

We have a prize far more valuable than an Olympic medal. And our training has value both now and in eternity!

    2. I love this analogy. I could certainly be more diligent than I am being now—I'm not up to Olympic standards yet.

    3. Love it! We should work as hard at being Christians as Olympians do at getting their medals, for surely our prize is much greater and better than any Olympic medal.
