Kindness, not Sarcasm

Sometimes it's the message that offends and sometimes it's the messenger. This 1-minute devotion encourages us to share Christ wisely. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions

Sometimes it's the message. Sometimes it's the messenger.

The Gospel is offensive to some people no matter how kindly we share it (2 Corinthians 2:15-16).

But sometimes Christians can be offensively self-righteous or sarcastic.

That's why Scripture says, "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone" (Colossians 4:6).

Whether talking to an unbeliever or a fellow Christian, we should choose our words kindly.

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." Ephesians 4:29-30

I know I am a recovering Pharisee...but I have to really be careful to keep recovering and not slip back into my superior self-righteousness. Thanks for linking up.

    1. No, dear, it was NOT you : )
I think it's appropriate at times to point out error, but this post was very sarcastic and superior sounding. It would never have ministered to someone caught in the sins she described.
And I have to fight this type of attitude in myself, as I said. We Christians find so many reasons to feel superior to other Christians...Bible versions, Bible study methods, mothering choices, schooling choices, denominations, etc.
And I just want to fight my tendency to become self-righteous.
      Love ya : )

  10. Great post! Sometimes I get "turned off" by bloggers who use a holier-than-thou tone when trying to state their reasons for doing/not doing something. It is so important that, if we're going to point out a sin (hold the other person accountable), we do it with a selfless motive and a loving spirit.

  12. It reminds me of a post I did for my Yahoo Group. I was going through the late Stephen R Covey's Seven Habits, and I came to the Habit "Seek First To Understand, Then To Be Understood." I fear we come into a situation like Job's three friends did. We are quick to condemn, but slow to understand the situation of the other person. It's no wonder we lose so many people and make them a twofold child of hell rather than speak the truth IN love and save them in the end.
