Satan is Not God's Opposite

Satan is not God's opposite, God is far greater than Satan, God's goodness is far greater than Satan's wickedness
Satan isn’t God’s opposite...God’s goodness is far greater than Satan’s evil.

That’s one reason Satan is often repetitive and uncreative.

In Luke 4:1-13, Satan tempted Jesus with food, fame, fortune, and power.

This is remarkably similar to his temptation of Eve in the Garden when he temped Eve with the forbidden fruit, a chance to be like God, and a chance to know what God knows.

1 John 2:15-17 says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”

Expect Satan to attack you in similar areas, prepare your mind for action, and stand firm! (1 Peter 1:13)

  1. Food, fame, fortune, and power. That surely is the temptations old Satan is still using today!
God gives these to those who will not walk in pride but give Him the glory. Most of us are not called to the fame and power, but God does supply our food and (fortune) daily needs for which I am thankful.

  3. "Satan isn’t God’s opposite...God’s goodness is far greater than Satan’s evil."

Very insightful observation, and an important truth. Similarly, darkness is not the opposite of light, but simply the absence of light.

    Thanks for sharing!

  4. Very true! And, thank the Lord for that truth. I grew up thinking that Satan was just like God... only evil. As in, equal in power. But, just this past Sunday I heard our pastor say, "there is nothing Satan can do apart from God's permission". I mean, I had learned this before, but when I heard it again, I was filled with thankfulness that nothing happens apart from God's sovereignty.
