Are You In Training?

Philippians 3:13-14, 1 Timothy 4:8, physical training versus spiritual training
Regrets, mistreatment, injustice and unexplained difficulties can knock us off our feet. But Paul tells us how to get up and keep running:

“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” we “press on toward the goal to win the prize” (Philippians 3:13,14)

Our life on earth is training for heaven (1 Timothy 4:8), so we should be:
  • Straining to know God’s love that overcomes fear and unbelief even when we don’t understand our circumstances. (We do this by knowing His Word.)
  • Pressing on in prayer, knowing we're forgiven, knowing He’s our strength and justice, even when we don’t see or feel the results.
  • Focusing on the goal, knowing God will accomplish His purposes in us and through us.
Christians must be runners in training…no couch potatoes in this race!

But we have reason to REJOICE—the prize is fulfillment of God's purposes in this life and eternal life with Christ when our race here comes to an end.

  1. Needed this encouragement this morning,, Gail. Had a fender bender on the interstate yesterday and was feeling leery of driving today. I need to "forget what is behind" and focus on God's love and protection--no one hurt, cars were still drive-able, no one threw a hissy, and the state trooper was kind and reassuring. God's love was abundantly evident. Thanks for en-COURAGE-ing me today.

    1. So glad this was timely encouragement for you, Pam. I pray that God will continue to calm your fears. I'm sure I would feel the same had it happened to me. And I pray that getting your car fixed will go smoothly. Glad it's still working.
      Bless you,
      Gail

  2. Straining to know Gods love. Sometimes the way things are worded makes a person think about something they already know, differently. Overcoming fear and unbelief is a daily struggle in my life. You cannot feel the power of God's love and have fear and unbelief in your heart. Good thoughts for a Tuesday morning... :)
